A Church Built to Last: Energy Efficiency, Durability, and Comfort
This recently completed church stands as a shining example of thoughtful design and superior construction, blending energy efficiency, comfort, and durability. Built with modern solutions like radiant heating, exceptional insulation, and low-maintenance materials, the church has quickly proven itself to be an ideal space for both worship and community gatherings. In a recent conversation, Walter shared his satisfaction with the project, highlighting how well the building meets the needs of the congregation while providing long-term benefits in terms of energy savings and minimal upkeep.
“We’re really happy with the design,” Walter said. “It’s efficient in every way—sound-wise and energy-wise. It’s the perfect building for a church, and honestly, for any purpose.”
One of the key features of the church is its radiant heating system. The building is kept at around 64° in the winter to maintain optimal conditions for both the congregation and the church’s instruments. “When we bump the temperature up to 68°-69° during services, everyone stays comfortable because the heat comes from the floor,” Walter explained. “And the best part? Our total monthly cost for electricity and propane is just $500-$600.”
The church’s energy efficiency extends to the summer months as well. Thanks to superior insulation, the air conditioning system performs just as effectively. "It doesn’t matter where you sit in the building—you feel good year-round," Walter noted. "The insulation makes a huge difference."
The exterior was designed for durability and low maintenance. The walls are stuccoed onto foam, and the roof is metal, which provides lasting protection. “One of the great things about using Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) is the longevity,” Walter said. “This building will be here for a very, very long time. We don’t have to worry about rot or deterioration.”
In addition to energy efficiency and durability, the building offers impressive sound insulation. Located on busy Erickson Avenue, the church remains quiet inside. "You don’t hear any of the traffic, even though we’re right off a busy road," Walter said. "When we have stage music during services, nothing from outside disrupts the sound."
Reflecting on the overall construction process, Walter expressed his appreciation for the work that Steve and his team completed. "If I ever need to build an extension or another building for my family or the church, I’ll definitely work with Steve again. The whole experience was smooth, and the project stayed on schedule. It’s a great product, and the work was top-notch."
The project has clearly been a success, with the church not only serving its immediate needs but also standing as a long-term, sustainable solution. The combination of energy efficiency, low maintenance, and effective design has created a space that will serve the community for many years to come. Walter’s church is a testament to how thoughtful design and construction can make a lasting impact.
